Sony Ericsson P990i Phones
This Sony Ericsson P990i can be considered in the same league as smart phones, thanks to its dynamic performance and style. The Sony Ericsson phone is modeled on its predecessor- the p910i, but has been upgraded to include Wi-Fi, camera and FM radio.
This phone is a clamp shell with two screens: an internal screen and external display. The screen display of this Sony Ericsson is of TFT type, capable of displaying 262,144 colors sand has an impressive resolution of 240x350 pixels. The dimensions of the Sony Ericsson P990i phone are 114x57x25. It weighs 150g, which is quite heavy. The phone has a small screen and includes a new feature called the ‘QWERTY’ style keypad. This keypad can be detached completely to reveal QWERTY alphanumeric keypad below it. This feature has not gone down well with the users though and serves as a negative point.
The phone can also recognize handwriting through its special software. Most of the functions of the Mobile Phone can be accessed even without opening the flip, through the 3-way jog dial. The first important feature is that it is a tri-band, 3G GSM phone. It is the first phone in the p series to include 3G. Through this the user can access the internet at great speed and can also conduct video calling. The Sony Ericsson P990i phone employs the Symbian9.1 as its operating system. This has enabled the phone to transform into a specialized multi tasking device. Through this operating system various other options and soft wares are made available to the Mobile Phone user. These would include Audible (enables user to download and listen to various books and magazines), SlovoEd (multilingual translation tool), IntelliGolf (golfing assistant) and WorldMate (travel guide service).
The user can connect in every possible way to other compatible phones and PC’s through either the 3G, Wireless LAN, Bluetooth, USB, Infrared or Fast port from this Mobile Phone !! The user can keep in touch with others through SMS, MMS or EMS options. The phone two cameras and this provides great thrill to the user. The phone thrills the user by providing two cameras: a front facing camera for video calling and 2megapiel camera on the rear for capturing photos and recording videos. The camera is a hi-tech one as it contains the Adobe Photoshop 2.0 Starter Edition. This is a soft ware that enables the user to edit photos on the PC. The music quality in the Sony Ericsson phone is very good and the media player supports Bluetooth stereo headsets. The Sony Ericsson P990i mobile boasts of an internal memory of 60 Mbytes to store photos, Videos and songs. This can be upgraded to 4 Gbytes. However, this phone has its share of flaws, some of them being that the phone is slow and that the software crashes frequently.
